Grilled Burgers for a Group

A backyard burger station with a seasoning baseline, topping strategy and food thermometer checks.

Base: 8 servingsApprox. 3 lb ground beef • direct-heat grill

Ingredients

Ingredient quantities scale mathematically; round practical items and adjust seasoning by taste.

  • 3 lb ground beef
  • 8 burger buns
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 8 lettuce leaves
  • 8 slices cheese, optional

Step-by-step method

  1. Keep ground beef refrigerated until shaping. Prepare a clean platter for finished burgers.
  2. Divide beef into eight similar patties, handling gently. Season just before grilling.
  3. Preheat the grill and clean cooking grates using an appropriate method.
  4. Grill patties, turning as needed; avoid pressing out juices.
  5. Insert a food thermometer sideways into the center of thin patties. Ground beef must reach at least 160°F.
  6. Serve immediately with buns, cheese and separated toppings. Keep cooked burgers separate from raw-meat plates.
Safety check: Ground beef must reach at least 160°F internally. See the food safety guide.
Grill heat and patty thickness change cook time dramatically. Do not use color as a doneness test.
